Prehistoric Settlements, Iberian and Roman were hosted by the coastline of Roquetas de Mar, stressing on the banks of "The Algaida" an important town called "Turaniana", which was characterized by the use of marine resources, fisheries and salted.
In the thirteenth century, when creating the Nazari Kingdom of Granada by Muhammad I, the area of Roquetas is an integral part thereof and belongs to the "taha" of Felix. With the Christian conquest in the sixteenth century and depopulation of places intensified coastal defence system resulting in a more dense Torres almenadas cylindrical. The tower "Cerrillos" is the only defence witness to be preserved, along with the watchtower which became the "Castillo de Santa Ana". > Holidays  Among the religious celebrations should be stressed that made in honor of the Virgen del Carmen and Santa Ana, July 25 and 26 with a wonderful maritime procession with all the boats in the area engalanadas and along the coast, culminating with the day Acts of fun games, verbenas popular and great castle of fireworks. In October patronal feast is celebrated the day 7, in honor of Virgen del Rosario with Verbena Popular. Another of the tourist areas along the coast, Aguadulce, celebrates its patronal feast, in honor of the Virgen del Carmen, on July 16 with a special procession sea and land equally with Verbenas Popular acts and playgrounds.
The night of San Juan is celebrated on June 23 in the entire coastline with bonfires that dot of light and color the busy beaches.
The Easter Roquetas de Mar has become one of the most important place in the Province. The brotherhood of Virgen de los Dolores, notable for its artistic quality imagery. On December 29 is celebrated in our shores the traditional festival of "Moragas" in which our people and visitors gather to enjoy a typical grilled fish and meats > Gastronomy
The cuisine of Roquetas de Mar is characterized by providing products and delicacies of a maritime fishing zone, stressing the quality of its fish, contributing to the preparation of delicious dishes as the "fish broth," "marinating fish" Arab origin, as well as the "rice apart," sailor single dish in the whole province. But surely "moraga" becomes a celebration of ancestral tradition of former sailors groups that met in the extensive beaches and now has become a fun social event where people come from across the province to 29 November to eat with the family around campfires and barbecues, fish and meat.
